Has anyone reading this board ever reworked a SOIC (1.27mm pin pitch) to include a series resistor between the PCB pad and a pin part? I've lifted pins before and used jumper wires to attach them to some other pin/pad. I was wondering how fragile an 0402 resistor is and whether or not the pin could be lifted high enough to insert one, "tombstoned" between the bottom of the pin and PCB pad.

I'm worried that:
a) the pin may break lifting it that high, or
b) the resistor will be too fragile and break/shear with any sort of flexing or vibration.

Is this for a rework solution on a quantity of boards?

Is there no convenient via to use as a pad, after cutting the track?
