single memory Computer [PC]

Dear Friends
I wonder if it could be possible to compose a computer that would consist just one type of memory (primary: RAM etc, or secondary: HDD etc) where this only memory would be able to do all the computer memory stuffs, so it could be a RAM and HDD...
I also think that what would be the advantages and disadvantages of this system,
Would it be very fast??? and would it be cost effective...

PS:I would like to receive answers based on computer architecture knowledge, but not necessarily.
 

I haven't tried this but I 've heard that windows vista had the capability of using any USB storge device as RAM.

Google it for more info on it.
