How much reliability can i expect from silver fingers instead of gold ones. Do they last for 5, 10, 15 insertions or are there odds that they'll break right away.
Gold and silver fingers have the same material inside. The golden ones are gold plated, the silver ones are nickel plated. The golden ones have a lower contact resistance than the silver ones.
If the contacts will break away, it will not be good quality or the connectors will cant.
Never used silver for edge connectors, I've always used hard gold plating.
Silver does tarnish and has a limited shelf life when used as a surface finish, as to its reliability for edge connectors, I cant comment because as I said I have never used it. I have always specified gold as it is more reliable, dosn't tarnish etc.Personaly i would always use hard gold plating.
