Hi everyone! I am very new in vhdl and I need some help with the asignment I have to do.

I want to send a character with hyper terminal to Spartan 3E board via RS232 and show its ASCII code on 8 LEDs. I have already implemented UART Receiver but now I don't know what else should I do.

Do I have to make a new FSM to turn on the LEDs according to error bits from receiver?
