the best way to learn to program is to write code

as well as reading BigDog's recommended books get a development board such as Microchip's microstick
https://www.microchip.com/Developmenttools/ProductDetails.aspx?PartNO=DM330013

it comes with an onbaord programmer and a header to connect to a breadboard where you can build your own circuits, e.g. switches, LEDs, motors, etc
it also has the facility to connect a FDTI TTL to USB device
https://www.ftdichip.com/Products/Cables/USBTTLSerial.htm
so you can transmit data using a UART to a PC

Hello!

Thanks for the inputs. As hardware: I have a Mikromedia PIC24EP board. I think the books from Mr. Lucio Di Jasio are good source!
