servo motor picbasic

I constructed a usual servo motor circuit on a breadboard for prototyping found in popular books and it turned out that the servo motor is not following the actual programming logic at the first power-on. I have to turn on and off the power switch several times and it will do its job. Sometimes it will not respond at all. What seems to be the problem? I'm using PIC16F84A with 4MHz Cristal.
