sr latch ic

Is it advisable to make our own S-R latch using NAND gates? Is it stable and reliable? Or do you prefer to use S-R ICs like 74hc279? If there is no problem doing it with NAND gates, then i will save one IC and more importantly board space. Thanks.

Hi,
There is no problem in using SR latch made out of NAND gates. If you have extra NANDs available on the board, you can as well use them.

nand sr latch

It also depends upon what you actually wnat to do...if you intend to make a bigger project of which SR latch is only a small part...then what is the need to consume more space and money by making SR latch discretely
