Request for a phodiode model

Hello guys,

I am searching for a photodiode in order to measure a varying light intensity. The problem is

how fast can the photodiode can respond to that varying intensity. The measurements to be

every 1 millisecond (1000Hz). Which specification of the photodiode gives me this information?

Does anyone have anything (or any model) to suggest? This light intensity is at the range of visible light.

I have never used a photodiode so I asked Google for one. Here it is:

Its risetime and falltime are a million times faster than your requirement. Its amplifier will probably slow it down.

Response time depends on light intensity (uA) and wavelength(nm) and load resistance. Since photodiodes are current sources, the RC response time is a tradeoff with voltage sensitivity and speed.

Do you need spectrum equalized to eye response or silicon response which is heavily weighted towards Infrared?

If daylight eye corrected response is essential, I have had excellent results with low-cost Panasonic's Photo IC type high sensitive light sensor in a 5mm case with radial leads. Although specified 1.3ms response with 500 Ohm load and 250uA from 100 lx (lux) gives 125mV.

It is called the Panasonic AMS302, which I got from Digikey last year.

2. Photocurrent is proportional to illumination. (linear output)

PIN diodes from HP are available with fast response as fast as 5 to 10 ns and more. Its biasing and coupling is bit critical.

What is the application or pls specify all the requirements for input vs output.
There are many possible and irrelevant solutions.

1. Eye response only or don't care about wavelength
2. Intensity level ? or dont care.. gain is dependent with range and speed.
3. Power source?
4. Output range?
5. Analog or digital output?
6. Pulse input or Analog?
