Hi,
I am designing 5V fixed powersupply. For that, regulator LM7805 or LM1117-5V which is best?. What is difference b/w 7805 & 1117?. Which is having less failure and cost effective?

1117 is a low dropout regulator. Which means that you can have an input voltage of atleast 6.2V and still get 5V output. With a 7805, you need minimum 7V to get the 5V.

The load capability is also slightly different.

I always buy products from large Name Brand manufacturers because they are very reliable, not cheap junk from unknown or little manufacturers.
Some parts sold cheaply on e-bay are fakes that do not even work.

The 7805 has an output current of 1A, so power delivered will be 5 Watts.

Whereas in the case of 1117-5, it has an output current of 0.8A. So the power delivered will be 4 Watts.

Calculate your power requirement and chose the voltage regulator accordingly.
Both are reliable voltage regulators and have a good load regulation.

Thanks, i am decided to use 7805.
