Again, a question about a compiler selection.
I am going to use an Atmel or an ST SoC and trying to choose a decent compiler.
I have got an experience working with PIC18 series using the PIC C18 compiler.
So, I would like to find something similar to the C18 one and also the one which has a good support .
The prices is not the issue, What would you recommend?

You forgot to mention an important part, which architecture from Atmel?
Atmel makes 8051 devices -> Keil Compiler
Atmel makes AVR8 devices -> AVR Studio
Atmel makes ARM devices -> many compiler suitable e.g. IAR, Keil, ARM, GNU...
Atmel claims to make AVR32 devices, have no idea what tools might support this one, not many compilers that's for sure.

Hope this gives you the right hint,

Bob

iar downloadarm compiler

For AVR :
1.IAR
2.Winavr
3.Codevision for newbies.

best+compiler+atmel

Sorry about that,
it is going to be the ARM based processor.
I am just trying to make a desicion between the AT91SAM7X256 (ARM 7) of Atmel and the STR91xF (ARM 9) of ST and to select a nice compiler for one of them.

keil c compilers for atmel

for avr c language:
1st: IAR --> good but expensive
2nd:imagecraft
3rd:winavr-->free
4rd:codevision

Why is the Keil not suitable for Atmel?

disadvantage of keil compiler

Why is the Keil not suitable for Atmel?

...because they did not provide AVR compilers.
(...but Keil is a good choice for Atmel ARM's...)

advantages of iar workbench over winavr

I am actually looking to use the ARM only.
I have had a quick look at the IAR and the Keil.
The first disadvantage of IAR I have noticed is that you can't undock the sorce windows. All other windows are dockable, but not the source ones, which is an inconvenience. Also the Keil uVision3 looks very much like the MPLAB, which I am familiar with, unlike the IAR which is absolutely different.
So, I am just trying to find an advantage of the IAR over the Keil.

Re: Compilers for Atmel

for Philipes Arm Controller i think keil is the best

Fire in the Wire

Re: Compilers for Atmel

Why do you think so?
And why only for Philips?

Re: Compilers for Atmel

The following in order of quality

iar , winavr, keil, iccavr

Re: Compilers for Atmel

Can you elaborate on what you mean by quality?

Compilers for Atmel

i think bascom avr is good too?

Compilers for Atmel

codevision is the best to progame it by c language

Re: Compilers for Atmel

I recommend Codevision for AVRs and KEIL for AT89 family of 8051

Of course Bascom is quite good, but anyone who has no/little experience with AVR uc, I think CodeVision is the best way to start. Unfortunately, it's not free:cry:

Compilers for Atmel

Is not Keil C51 best in this area ?

How does it match up to the other compilers like SDCC and IAR ?

Compilers for Atmel

key5 : are they compilers !

:)

Compilers for Atmel

so, which is better between Codevision and Bascom.?
I'm a new user for AVR. But I need a good quality compiler,
thx
