Hi there,

May I know why transil T1 has to be bi-directional? Wouldnt it be the same if T1 was uni-directional and in the same orientation as D1? Please see attached datasheet for diagrams. Thanks in advance.
 

Yes, it can be unidirectional. It protects against negative overvoltages, T2 - positive
