Why pulse width modulation is used in Nautel transmitter NX 100.Although communication is analog?

Why they call NX 50 or NX 100 transmitter a digital transmitter.While they use PDM (pwm) which is analog technique. Kindly explain how modulaion occur in NX 100 transmitter. Both audio and carrier are in analog form when modulation occur or both are in rectangular form??
