Proximity sensor question, speed

Which proximity sensor/switch would you recommend from the <2ms response time range when power consumption matters? Range: <=3cm. The smaller is the better, there are electromagnetic coils around. I found that APDS-9190 might be close; a little quicker and smaller would be better.
 

What are you detecting? How are you detecting it? You can use reflective optical sensors or break beam sensors or magnetic sensors or many other things. So a little bit more about the system always helps.
 

Bearings steel balls, between rings in a magnetic environment. Speed needs to be checked to ensure that there is enough oil and that it does not start to burn by calculating heat (air temperature is checked by a different PCB).
