hello sir,

I m have a project where a detection system is to be installed in a pipe manufacturing company , i m confused which type of sensor is to be used in this case bcoz the thickness of pipe is very less (>0.5mm) and transparrent also. if the pipe shape varies it needs to be detected . I tried with a normal capacitive switch but it did not detect the variation correctly as the thckness of the pipe is less.
So, plz suggest me a sensor which i can try

Try an array of four ultrasonic transducers around the pipe. Pulsing them altogether should give give identically timed echos unless unless the pipe is distorted. You may need to blank out the first (face echo) and look at the second one from the inner face (for thickness). Google for ultra sonic ***** location or similar.

Technology

see typical applications...........
The separation surfaces between glass and air are opaque and can be detected : the distance between the first and the last edge is the external diameter dimension. A special signal processing software (glass logic) ignores all signal included within these extreme edges.

There is many manufacturers
google for ex. On-line diameter Gauging
