I had gone through many Profibus Threads in this Forum...But Nothing is available in Clear Form..
I am not able to understand its Protocol clearly which is defines at Security level in Wikipedia Link..can any body Suggest Some Good Technical Articles on Profibus ..Sound Understanding...
Profibus is very similar to Fieldbus, its name is derived from "Process Field Bus". Here's the actual Profibus website with protocol and standard docs:
Thanks for Replying Sir,, I had been to this Site But not able to understand the Documents Clearly...I will be very thankful if you provide me any Core Level Information on this Topic..
The Document which i Downloaded from this Site,,specifies a Top Level Information,,instead of going in Depth of this Topic.
I found a lengthy discussion concerning the patent restrictions:
The things became clear this April, that the PROFIBUS standard is protected by three patents owned by Siemens and Endress+Hauser. Two of them by Siemens affect the PBMaster project. Those patents relate with a communication principle necessary for implementation of a FDL master station. These patents avoid the project to distribute the source code as open-source under the GNU GPL v.2 license.
No..Modbus is primarily single master multiple slave topology, whereas PROFIBUS is primarily intended for multiple master and multiple slave implementation, also the configuration in PROFIBUS is through a configuration file and is more complicated than MODBUS.
PROFIBUS is more suited for plug and play operation where units can be connected to PLCs without fiddling around. A MODBUS device requires good documentation that describes the various options and features available on the device, the user needs to study this before installing the device. A PROFIBUS device requires only the configuration file (generated using a software) for installation.
PROFIBUS has become quite popular in industries for control applications and is favoured by most European manufacturers.
There are gateways and ASIC modules that can be used to interface PROFIBUS network with other standards, but these are quite expensive..
