HI,

I am trying to understand the maximum power consumption of a 3.5 inch SATA hard drive. Could anyone help me with a power requirements for it?

This depends from manufacturer and specific model. For newer generation of HD 5W and less. You can see WD HD some models are less then 2,5W.

Ok, but considering if we need to design a circuit that can match power requirements, it would have to be generic for all sata hdd. I am basically looking for a standara power requirement chart for SATA, that talks about the maximum power required by it.

Like, for spin-up time, it is said to be consuming 2A, that would mean 25W of power required for the design.
