Hello all,
I just want to plot the output characteristics of IRF540 MOSFET.
I connected Vgs to+5V,Rd=1kohm, Source at ground..
Now,as i vary the Vds from 0-30Vdc to plot the output characteristics
am not getting any drain current..Why this is happening?

Can somebody guide me how to plot the characteristics of this MOSFET?

Regards

The datasheet for the IRF540 shows that it is guaranteed to be turned on very well when its gate-source voltage is 10V. With your gate-source voltage of only 5V then some but not all IRF540 Mosfets will conduct a little.
You should NEVER use a semiconductor without looking at its datasheet.

Mosfets have a wide range of characteristics. Your test results will apply only to the one you have.

If an IRF540 Mosfet is found that turns on well with only 5V from gate to source and the supply to the drain resistor is varied then Ohm's Law (the current) will be plotted for the drain resistor.
