Pie attenuators and receiver circuit.

I wanted to know the function of pie attenuators when they are in the receiver portion of the circuit.

to attenuate the strong received signal, as much as to ensure succeeding stages doesn't get effected by strong signal level!!!
adjustable they are normally to coup for different signal strengths.
