I am using Pickit3 to program a PIC18F47J53 using MPLAB IPE version 3.10.
My question is that after the PIC has been programmed the MPLAB IPE displays a pass count, which when I first started using it was 6 now after I have programmed the device a few dozen times it has a pass count of 13. What is the pass count? What is the maximum acceptable pass count? Does this affect the programming time?
I am using the PIC18 as the CPU in a operating system and I am loading the programs into flash memory. I was wondering if the pass count could give me an indication as to how good the flash memory endurance was and if it was possible to work out from this the remaining number of writes left or how many writes I have done. As I said in my first post when new the pass count was 6 and now it is 13.
I believe the "pass counter" is a software feature of the PICkit3 driver. There's no internal programming cycle counter in PIC18 or any other PIC processor as far as I'm aware of.
