Pickit2 VPP voltage level error& check the target &retry operation

Dear Friends!

I am using PIC18F66K22 Ic for my Project. Circuit is working under 5V. hardware is everything ok. On chip voltage regulator Activated. 0.1uF cap has been placed in all power pins respect to ground. Crystal 22Mhz(22pF cap). Whwn i am connecting the target to an target, I am having a error like this

"Pickit2 VPP voltage level error& check the target &retry operation"

Really i dont know how to solve.

I checked all hardware connections.

In data sheet they strongly mentioned as both Pickit2 and Pickit3 can be use for Programming and debugging..

Hai,
I don't think Pickit2 will work on this chip.
You may find Pickit2 readme file in the installation directory(C:\Program Files\Microchip\PICkit 2 v2 in my system), where it lists the supported devices.

Yet now i am facing the problem, i cant find device file for Pic18f66k2 in pickit2. I have spent full day for finding device file,but........i cant get.I think Microchip product document should be very clear about this. If they know there will be programming problem By pickit2 or 3 means they should mention a line in datasheet. now see we only suffered by lake of information.

Kindly help me find the device file(How to update).. Thanks in advance

As you will find in MPlab Configuration section or the device table that chips is only programmable with the Pickit3.

I have seen the device file for 18f66k22 in MPLAB. But how can i use that device file to programming the IC. MPLAB is not a stand alone programmer. its just a compiler... I think i am right. Anyhow i have tried to programming with PICKit3... Device id mismatch . I think we need specific device file for Pickit3 or 2 to programming.. I have downloaded Updated device file from microchip for pickit2.. Even though i cant find IC in that device file 18f_K...

Hi, There will be a selector in pickit 2 to select 28 pin and 40 pin mode.. select appropriate mode for this error..

I have updated the Device files. It shows the device up to PIC18F46K22. yet i cant get 66k22 device in the Select part drop down menu.. Is there any other ways to programming the IC.. I don't know why these problems are happening. Microchip data sheet is not clear. They should give solutions for these type of problems.

As your message i have connected to Pic kit3. Set up is same as your images added. But while read my device it shows Device Id mismatch. I think Pic kit3 device files need to update. ] I am damn sure hardware is 100% good.

Post your circuit.
Please note that your programmer pin 1 should directly connect to MCLR pin of microcontroller. No resistor should be place in series.

Here i have posted my schematic. Controller part only added. Kindly have a look and give your good suggestions. All VDD and Vss lines are having 0.1uF cap.

While selecting the IC from Pic kit3 Part List, Status bar glows in Yellow colour. It means future development will be on that device.. Right?

MCLR connection to ICSP is wrong.

Connect the ICSP PIN 1 directly to MCLR pin. Now you have placed a resistor, it is wrong. I had similar problem while i was working on a project long before.

Finally i got solution for this problem. Device has been detected


Problem is. Diode. Don't add any diodes in the MCLR unit.. Just 4.7K-10K resistor with VDD line is enough. I think any one will find this post very useful. A small resistor (<100E) must be added series with Programmer first pin and MCLR pin on Controller. Its a current limiter resistor(Consider 0.1uf cap has been added in MCLR unit. By chance it will produce surge). 0.1uf cap should be added All vdd and vss lines also Avdd and Avss.(Very nearer to controller pins).

but sir i am facing same problem now when i connect pickit2 programmer only.
what should be the problem?
is it because i am not connect controller circuit at ICSP connector?
and it is also giving error of Vpp.
