I’m looking at a design using a NPN cascade amplifier for good IP3. I read on internet that there is a rule of thumb in Sedra & Smith near page 536 that states, “1/4, 1/4, 1/4, 1/4 biasing rule to set up bias resistors”. My copy of Sedra & Smith is dated. Does anyone have knowledge of this rule of thumb? I’m trying to decide how much Re and Vce to use.

If I understand what u saying...
So you need that Vc1 (at RF cascode - down transistor you suppose to have 1/3VCC)

I think you should explain first what you want to achieve. Things like frequency, available power supply voltage, frequency range, bandwidth , IP3 and others need to be defined . Is it discrete, an IC . Just be more specific.
