Noise in AC power"I Think"

Hi,

I have three things connected to AC power in my room, a fluorescent lamp , my PC, and **broken link removed** connected to CFL bulb.

The strange thing is when i switch on the fluorescent lamp the speakers of the PC produce a popping sound,and if the PC was a sleep it turns on, and the CFL bulb momentarily flashes

my "explanation" is its some kind of noise the lamp ballast produce

whats your explanation and how to get rid of it

I have a similar problem, sometimes when switching on a flourescent tube my grid-tied power inverts trip out for a moment.

The problem is the surge current taken when the tube start up, the time between applying power and the starter switch opening. For a moment, when power is first applied the starter switch is closed and a high current flows through the ballast and the tube heaters (the glow you sometimes see at the ends of the tube before it lights up). When the switch opens the current drops to normal levels again. Usually, it is all over in a fraction of a second but it is long enough to disrupt a few cycles of line voltage and upset other equipment connected to it. The problem is worse if you are a long way from the electricity transformer. There isn't much you can do about it although modern electronic starter units and ballasts units may help.
