Noise effects on signals

How signals are affected by noise ?
I mean whether amplitude or frequency of the signal is affected by noise ?
 

I am quite sure that the amplitude is more affected by the noise therefore FM radio is preferable over AM radio,
I have no idea how can the frequency of a signal is effected by the noise
