Hi I have got Arduino ITEAD GPS shield which Uses NMEA protocol....and UART to transfer a string of data, what are the buffer size i need for incoming bit stream to get full data ...thanks

It depends largely on the specific NMEA sentences your particular device outputs and required for your application.

The following reference outlines the format of each NMEA sentence and can be used to determine the required buffer size required:

GPS - NMEA sentence information

You should also refer to the specific GPS modules documentation.

Up to 256 bytes. I didn't see standard sentences large than this length.
