p1db mwo

My boss has just got us a licence for microwave office.
I've never seen it before last friday, but I have essentially got the idea.

I am failing to be able to create a 1dB compression graph for my design tho.

I have a couple of amps in there, created as subcircuits by downloading the S params from manufacturers website.

As far as feature set goes, we seem to have MWO-100.

Can I do p1dB plots with that, and if so, could someone point me to assistance please?
(Help doesn't..)

Hi

If you only have S-parameters, then it is not possible to make compression or any other non-linear simulations or large signal simulations.

If it is possible to get a large-signal model of your transistor it can be possible.

In general S-parameters are mostly linear and can only be used for small-signal purposes.

Hope it helps.

thanks for that.
If I were to get the required data, how would I go about using it?
I can't seem to get a graph with anything but freq across X axis?

Hi

It is a bit difficult to see what you are doing. But if you have the S-parameters, then try to first display them to start with. Maybee that is what you are trying? But you should at least be able check the data in the files with what you get from MWO.

Otherwise there are some excellent examples in MWO, where you can see how s-parameter files and displaying data are shown.

Otherwise upload your project and s-parameter files.

If you can get your hands on a model of your device then you would have to set it up like a real circuit.

MWO-100 is the linear simulator with layout, so even if you did have a non-linear model you would not be able to run harmonic balance simulation. You will need something like MWO-225. Once you have that then just go through the getting started guide and then look in the examples folder.
