I just purchased a oscilloscope from ebay not too long ago. I recieved a Philips PM 3055. I turned it on and the lines were not level or centered. I used the trace rotation knob to asjust the level, so it is flat now. The problem I have is the line wont center. I adjust the x-axis as far as it will go, and it doesnt come close to reaching the center (I will take a picture). I was wondering if any of you know how to fix this. My friend told me it was a potentiometer inside, so I opened it up and there are lots of pots on the top board. If anyone can guide me to fixing the screen, I would greatly appreciate it.
Oh my. The seller said he didn't know if it worked or not. That usually means it's broken.
The horizontal is a long way off. I'll bet it's an electrical malfunction. If you are lucky, it's just a loose connection or maybe an intermittent scratchy trimpot.
I would try gently wiggling and tapping things with an insulated stick, in hopes of finding a loose connection. If no luck, find yourself a service manual and start troubleshooting. Don't be surprised if a used manual costs more than you paid for the scope. Maybe you can borrow another scope to help troubleshoot this scope.
