n-select and p-select layer

Hi

While making layout, there are different layers available. Of which i did not what is n-select layer and p-select layer. When is this layer used?

If you are talking of N-type and P-type diffusions then you basically use this for making the transistors by inserting a poly strip in between.

Apart from this there is an active region which can be specified by the type of well you are creating on the substrate. N-well and P-Well
