Hi folks, my name is luis pepe of Argentina.
I'm working with a battery charger based on a TL494, LM741 and bta25-600 triac circuit.

The charger regulates the current supplied to the battery sensing the voltage drop in the shunt resistance.

The TL494 is synchronized with the line.

My problem is the peak current in the ac line at the time of maintaining constant voltage.

Probe many things, but did not find the problem, let alone the solution.

I am not surprised you are seeing some MASSIVE current spikes.

What you need is a filter choke between the rectifier and the battery.
How much average dc current are you anticipating into the battery ?
 

hi, thanks for the reply,the charge curent is 15a, i tried with a choke ,but the same problem ,no diference , i use a 100uhy 20a
 

That choke is far too small to be effective.

I used to design phase controlled commercial battery chargers many years ago, and looking up my old design notes, you need something like a 5.7mH choke for a 36v 15A battery charger.

That will definitely solve your current spike problem. You may or may not also have some commutation problems with a triac under certain conditions.
If so, back to back SCRs will eliminate that problem.
