I am doing one project with PIC16F876A and what I would like to do is to replace it with 28 pin ZIF socket, which is for 28 pin wide package .

I tried in eagle cad , it allows package of DIL28-3 and SO28W . In the schematic I right click the ic and click open device, I can see the available package. so I create a package in the right bottom tab for DIL28-6 and click connect and all pins set.

But I cant replace the existing one with the DIL28-6.
Kindly help

Sorry Guys.. I found the answer. I reoppend the software and I was able to do 'replace' the current one with a wide one.

Instead of using a ZIF socket, which are relatively expensive, you could also consider using a standard DIP socket. These allow you to remove the microcontroller as often as you need for reprogramming, but fit in the same footprint as the original IC.
