hello guys i trying for data compession can any one help me i want the technique for the compression.
one more thing i heard that haar transform is only for transformation use this can't we conpress the data ?

Re: data compression

There are lots of ways to compress data. You need to know whick one you want / need to do the work.

haar transform (haar is a wavelet basis) is manlly used for demostration of wavelet because of its simplicity. Its is not recomended for real aplication. If you want to base your work on wavelet you better choose another wavelet basis. Which one? the one the fits most to your problem fetures.

Re: data compression

Hi friend

I just want to add that the wavelet transform is really just transform, so using wavelet decompostion you can split signal into several freqency ranges, then on this subsignals you can applie the compress algorithm, for audio signal for example, in dependence on the subsignals dynamic and psychacustic model you can cmopute the nymber of bits you need for each subsignal

Re: data compression

how does huffman coding is for compression

Re: data compression

JPEG 2000 compression is based on Embedded Zero tree wavelet transform.
But that is good for Images.
Since you are dealing with data better try other wavelet functaions like haar, debucies, coieflets etc.
