customize 2001 for expedition software
Hi
Please find the following info about the scripting,
Automation and Scripting
Completely new to Expedition PCB in WG2004 is an Automation and Scripting capability. This is an addon
product that allows internal and external driven scripts to be run on a design giving access to over 1200
AutoActive(r) functions in Expedition PCB.
Automation will support any scripting language that conforms to the ActiveX scripting interface so languages
such as VBScript, JavaScript, PerlScript and even raw C++ could be used. This means that designers
can programmatically drive Expedition from a variety of sources such as external custom applications,
Microsoft office tools like Excel and Word, Web pages and even from Visual Basic or Java programs executing
inside the application.
Scripts can be just a few lines long that simply access commands found in pull down menus or they can
include their own custom dialog boxes and commands to get and put data directly into the running application.
Included with Automation are over thirty example scripts, available to use in their own right or as
templates to develop new productivity enhancing programs. They are located in:
<Install-tree>\2004\wg\win32\vbexppcb\Samples\Automation

The following example, ExcelCompList.xls, demonstrates the interaction with the PCB automation server
through an embedded macro stored inside an Excel spreadsheet. Upon execution, Excel collects a list of
the components placed in the design and loads them into the spreadsheet. Cross probing is maintained
between the two applications demonstrating the tight integration that can be achieved.
This next example demonstrates how to place a conductive area for a selected net. It also shows motion
graphics and event handling capabilities. The program is written in Visual Basic and can be found in
...\Samples\Automation\VisualBasic6\ConductiveArea.

Hope the above info will help you.
