In the commonly used MODE1 and 3 the baud rates are determined by the TIMET1 overfolw rate, and you can not acheive speeds higher than .. depending on Fosc, at 22,118400MHz it will be 2*57.6kbps=115.200kbps.
However, if you slect Mode0, the baud rate will be fixed at Fosc/12, or in MODE2, it will be (SMOD=0) Fosc/64 or (SMOD=1) Fosc/32.
So in MODE0 @ 12MHz crystal the baud rate is 1Mbps .. (8-bit shift register) ..
