Interesting, based on TI's own datasheet the E4 marked devices have the exact same package marking for the part "AM26LS31CN". There is also no reference to what an E or E4 making signifies. You may have to talk to a TI manufactures representative.

Given the cost differential, I would suspect the parts are some sort of guaranteed good die type part, i.e. they actually test each individual part meets all the datasheet specifications.
