Hi all,

A lot of online sources (ex: Wikipedia) give the input-output voltage relation of the Buck Converter as
Vout = D . Vin;
where, D is the duty cycle of the driving PWM signal.

But is the Output voltage of the Synchronous Buck Converter independent of the Load Resistance ?
What happens to the Output Voltage if the Load Resistance changes ?

Thanks,

Re: Is Output Voltage of the Synchronous Buck Converter independent of Load Resistanc

Hi,

Vout = D . Vin;
where, D is the duty cycle of the driving PWM signal.

it depends on D = duty cycle

If you have a fixed duty cycle, then the output voltage depends on the input voltage. It is independent of load resistance.
(This is true for IDEAL converters only. In reality it will slightely depend on load current and thus on load resistance)

***

Most swtiching controller ICs vary (regulate) the duty cycle in a way that makes the output voltage constant. Independent of load and independent of input voltage.
