I'm looking for very bright white LEDs (SMT or not) for building a LED lamp. Do you have some good information.

MARL has nice products :

I've already tested 5mm through hole white leds = ~2000mcd
and also smd white leds = ~320 mcd

WHITE LED

I have made a white led tourch, idea is that you can achive high brightness with help of white led driver circuit see attachment

Thank you for the information. I found good products from Osram (Golden Dragon) and Luxeon. Both are producing LEDs with 20lm/W.

go to vvv.LCK-LED.c*m you will find many high power leds at good prices.

You want the Luxeon 5, star.
It is 5 watts and you can't look at it.
It's 1 led chip.
It burns your eye.
~7.6x Volts.
The star is a alunimum pcb substrate needed to get the heat ( and a lot of it ) to a bigger heat sink.
Not cheep, ~$20 U.S.
