NOKIA phones' old charger used to be heavy. I figured it has a normal transformer and normal power-supply design.
The new charger is noticably lighter that it cannot have a transformer in it, it also charges faster.
Could anybody plz explain? Also if the schematic is available, plz post it

Hi,
Also in the earlier designs if the charger was left unconnected but powered on, it would become dysfunctional. Newer ones do not. Is it possible that there is no transformer at all?

as flatulent said, the solution is switching power supply.
Currently u can minimize the charger by integrated switchers like those provided by power itegrations.

for several small Integrated charger samples.
fro designing transformer, go to application notes page: **broken link removed**
nokia charger is mainly produced by astec. I think the older is linear power supply with normal transformer , the newer is switch mode power supply high frequency transformer.
