L293D input current problem for DC motor driving with 12V battery

Hello

I am interfacing L293D with microcontroller AT89S51 ....

I want know that how much input current can take L294D driver....I have 12V/5A battery....can I connect direct battery supply to L293D or I have to use regulator....??

Hi,

L293D can drive a load of continuous 600mA. But my suggestion is not to load more than 500mA. Ref Datasheet.
You don't want to put any regulator unless your load is in the 12V range.
But be sure that ur load is less than 600mA when you connect with 12V supply.

anyway.

you dont need any regulator just connect your microcontroller to l293.
give 12v to l293 or l293 . and write your code.
there is just only one thing to note that your motor current should not be grator then capacity of l293 .

yes you can.
this is very simple to understand . i give you an example.
when you connect any mobile charger to line voltage 220v/110v .
there are hundred's of ampares in line voltage but your charger takes only required current
which are just few hundred's miliampares .

ohh yes...you are right...but there one problem ....

I connected 8051 circuit to another power supply(+5V) and L293 is to 12V/5A battery supply (both circuit are supplied differently) ...my 12V DC motor not rotating...why...???

Make common gnd. use 7805 to regulate your battery voltage. connect 12v from battery to L293D and o/p of 7805 to MCU.
