l293 high quiescent current

i'm using L293D to control motor.

However, i notice that one L293D itself consumes 40mA (testing by just connect up 5V to Vcc pin & gnd). Is this normal ?

Is there any substitute with lower current consumption?

It looks pretty normal (see data sheet, electrical characterisctics: **broken link removed** ) ..
Try to set Venable=L (0V) and the quiescent current consumption should drop below 20mA ..

IanP

thanks IanP,

ok. already checked : 15mA.
from spec:
Total Quiescent Logic SupplyCurrent (pin 20) (Ven=L) : 16mA (Typ).
And with Ven=H : 44mA (Typ) - So high I think.

My MCU is driver 3 L29D like this. Future may driver 4.

The regulator becomes quite hot..
