can anyone point me a good tutorial towards ICL710x series ICs ?

from datasheets , we cant get much , is there real world examples with explanations ?

can we directly apply a variable current or voltage from pot to the the ICL7106/7 and show corresponding voltage on a 7 segment ?

Yes, that's possible to do as the ICL7107 IC incorporates in a 40-pin case all the circuitry necessary to convert an analogue signal into digital and can drive a series of four seven-segment LED displays directly. The circuits built into the IC are: an analogue-to-digital converter (ADC), a comparator, a clock, a decoder and a seven-segment LED display driver.

can u show a very simple example with least components ?

See the datasheet for a very simple schematics.
And here you find attached the russian version of this circuit 'KR572PV2A'. :-D
