u can download the kickstart version which is free but the code size is limited to 4k

There is an evaluation version available and what size of code it supports depends on the architecture. If you are using EWARM for ARM microcontrollers you can write programs up to 32 KB of size with the evaluation version. For 8-bit controllers the size is much smaller
