How to use timer as a counter in PIC16f684?

Hi, I am very new to embedded system ..
now i am going step by step..

I have used timer for delay using interrupt, now i want to use timer as a counter ..
for that i'm sending clock to the 3rd pin of 16f684 ie for CLKOUT/T1G bit ...
now i need to check the rising edge and falling edge of the pulses which i'm feeding to this pin..

how can i do pls try 2 give suggestion on this ..
