There is an explanation of why #asm and #endasm may not work in XC8 on pages 38 and 39 of the manual. You could try unchecking the "Use CCI syntax" box if you have one. I'm not at a computer with MPLABX installed at the moment but in MPLAB 8.91 with XC8 1.12 in the toolchain, the setting is under "Project/BuildOptions.../<project name>/Compiler".
