How to run a LED with alternating current ?

yes the led may be run with an ac circuit .... for this you have to generate a simple sine wave of very less frequency (as if the freq is greater you wont be able to see the blinking of the led)... to generate a simple sine wave you need an oscillator or a function generator will work for you.

i dont need to blink the led , what i wanted to know is that what circuit is to be made ,
in case of running with dc its simple ,in ac firstly the voltage is so high 220V , will it not damage the led...
