Hello.
Some laser pointers feature lens to produce a line instead of a dot. Seem cylindrical or fresnel. What factor changes the divergence angle ?
Distance from emitter to lens ? Diametre of lens ? Am after ~5 to ~10 degrees divergence; what I see on inexpensive sources are far more divergent, like 90, 120 degrees. Can a glass rod create the same effect ?
Typical in 'toy' pointers :

Others :

Line rendering :

the cylinder (others photograph) will produce a line
the source dot hits the cylinder and the laser refracts
the output is a line perpendicular to the axis of the cylinder

a bit of the laser hits the cylinder down the center and so refracts at zero degrees
move a tiny bit to either side, and the refraction angle changes a little
keep moving to either side and the refraction angle also changes a little
