how to Parsing a data in shell script

Hi all
Can any one tell me that how can we parse a data in shell scripting.
what actually i need is
i want to search some pattern (like seagate )
in a output of command "demsg |grep Vendor |less.

and by that if that pattren matches i have some other commands to execute.

Being a bignner i am not able to solve this .

If any one can suggest ....it would be obliged

or if u can plz send me some links or ebooks for the shell script
