How to make IR remote control that can be used for multiple devices?l

we have made ir remote control and now want to enlogate it .we complete ir reciver and transimitter. we want to contro; multiple device with one ir remote.
what to do
we operate it in 5v .

Hi,
You can modulate the IR signal with digital data (say one byte to start with)and send it . On the receive side get back the byte and interpret it as say to ON/OFF control of 8devices and apply them accordingly. Initiallly control eight LEDs remorely using 8 switches and later make your system more complicated.
