how to interface ping ultrasonic sensor to at89c51

most of the applications of ultrasonic sensor is distance measurement...but i want to make a project in which a pattern is stored in the microcontroller and when we show the hands in the same pattern the door should open...simply the hand detection is a password.....so please help me in this project....
