how to detect objects using IR in robots

object detection

well, there are several ways. If you want just to get know if there is something in front of you, use simple IR transmiter diodes and some reciever IR diodes. But if you want to know a distance use GP2Y0A02 or GP2D120. They are not so easy to use as a pairs of diods and they aint so cheap, but navigation will be much easier.

Re: object detection

can IR sensor detect an object on the floor like some of dusts or dirts?
or any other sensor for detecting dust or dirt on the floor?
absolutely thanks

object detection

well, maybe by the strength of reflection. If you use some precise AD converter you can detect dust or dirt as a change of strength of signal from IR reciever. But easier and more efficient for sure would be camera.

Re: object detection

okey thank you for your advise....
but if we use a microcontroller for processor and controller, can we implement a pattern recogition as an outcome from the camera that we used on microcontroller?....
if it can be, how we implement for it?...
maybe it much easier if we use a PC for recognizing pattern....
but if we will make a vacuum cleaners robot, i'm worry about PC utilizing...:?:

object detection

As you know, sometimes it is hard for me to see a dust on a floor :).

There are cameras that are easy to implement in forexxmaple AT mega. The other quetion is if you are going to use it in laboratory enviroment or in real world. Cause real pattern is not one-colour and and you must be damngood programmer to solve this kind of problem. Or is it just a black dust on a white pattern?

object detection

for using the IR in the circuits u have to knopw abt the RF circuits in etail..beacuse these radio frequencies are acctually the main essencebehind this IR

object detection

think U can IR ranger in wtih adc ,U can know range of the object

All of the IR ranging methods detect reflectied light from the object. To avoid interference from the stray light IR transmitter needs to be modulated with a 2 to 20kHz square wave and the reciever needs to be high-pass filtered.
