How to detect direction with encoder ? LPC2148 from NXP

I am doing dc servo motor controller.I want control position.But i don't know used some registry?Now I can read encoder by timer counter registry.Plsease help me.
Hardware: LPC2148 form Nxp

Hi

You will need to add a sensor who will tell you where is start point - like the QRD1313

And the then you can use encoder data to measure direction
