I have built one of "electronic-lab" power supply circuit about a year ago, it didnt work. Give me some info on how to make one (want to control current 0-3A) , I might be able to design a circuit. Im a first year student, I admit I don't know much, but I can try. Thanks.
If you want to generate from 220V AC. First, please use a full-bridge and LC filter to rectify it to a croase DC. Then use a flyback AC-DC converter to generate 50V, 3A output.
Check out LM338.
Not going to get much simpler than that.
You will have to add more external stuff if you want to be able to set a current limit
below 5A , but that can come later.

Try a lm317HV with external pass transistor. Still pretty simple!!
